For the most part throughout his series documenting skiing the 50 Classics, Cody has been without his partner in crime and wife Elyse Saugstad. Elyse is one of the most decorated big-mountain skiers in the industry, but she’s never been one for ski mountaineering. Of course, with Cody pushing his limits and the limits of the sport over the past two seasons, it was time for her take a sip from that cup of tea. Leave it to Elyse to take a huge sip, and tackle one of the more technical lines in the book – Horstmann Peak’s Sickle Couloir, deep in Idaho’s Sawtooth Range.

Needless to say, Cody is as stoked as it gets to take his wife up a line they’ve talked about for a long time. It’s a long walk, it’s a steep climb, and it’s definitely a lot different than when Elyse joined the team for Terminal Cancer last season. Back then, she had snowblades on. Now, she’s got crampons and ice axes as part of her kit, and has a steep learning curve to deal with. But, in true Elyse fashion, she takes it all in stride and makes it look like a walk in the park.
