After a seven-year break in the action, The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational is back on! The surf is supposed to be epic this weekend with ideal wind and swell conditions, and waves predicted to reach over 30 feet in the forecast! This invitational is held at the legendary big wave spot, Waimea Bay on Oahu. It has been held on and off since the mid 1980’s in honor of deceased big wave surfer and lifeguard, Eddie Aikau, who lost his life trying to save a crew of voyagers whose vessel had capsized off the coast of the Hawaiian Islands. Aikau was a beloved waterman on the island, and he and his brother competed together in big wave competitions up until his death in 1978. This event carries on the legend of Eddie Aikau, and we’re stoked to see what this weekend has in store!
