The unReal World: The Stories Behind The Stunts – Outside TV (2017)

The unReal World: The Stories Behind The Stunts – Outside TV (2017)

“The unReal World: The Stories Behind the Stunts” is a series that celebrates breaking free from the confines of reality, in association with Teton Gravity Research and Anthill Films. Glaciers become mountain bike trails, a dirt blizzard creates a biking wonderland, and reality is cinematically bent in this creative series.

Singletrack Switzerland Web Series

Singletrack Switzerland Web Series

In the second episode of Singletrack Switzerland, a new Teton Gravity Research mountain bike project produced in partnership with Swiss International Air Lines, Switzerland Tourism, and BMC Switzerland, two American mountain bikers –Brice Shirbach, and pro skier Carston Oliver – venture to Verbier, Switzerland, where they ride open alpine singletrack, full-blown bike parks, and thousands upon thousands of vertical feet with the help of Epic Europe tours.

Verbier is infamous as one of the rowdiest ski and snowboard resorts in the Alps, hosting the Verbier Xtreme big-mountain contest on the imposing 50º face of the Bec de Rosses. Verbier’s growing bike park is looking to match the winter freeride experience, with flowing jump lines in the open alpine and technical downhill tracks falling through the forest. A little bit of work on the pedals, however, nets you a day-long tour down into the Rhone Valley, or down the puckering, switchbacking trail to La Chaux, which runs through mountainside villages and alongside steep, cliffed faces on its way down, down, down to the bottom of the valley.

Sammy Carlson Spins Off Speed Flying Ramp Backwards

Sammy Carlson Spins Off Speed Flying Ramp Backwards

Teton Gravity Research and 8-time X Games medalist and 3-time Real Ski Champion, Sammy Carlson, introduce The Sammy C Project. The Sammy C Project hopes to inspire those even beyond the realm of snow to go after their dreams with tenacity.

Sammy Carlson, places himself in the record books as the first skier to hit a “ski-flying” long jump with freestyle intent. Carlson not only spun himself from the lip of a jump designed to send skiers upwards of 500 feet, but began several of many descents into the jump switch.

Built in 1970, the ski jump, known as Copper Peak, is the largest ski jump in the Western Hemisphere. Located on Michigan’s upper peninsula and along the shores of Lake Superior, the 24 story, 300-ton steel structure is named for the mineral deposits unearthed during its construction (a 140-pound copper nugget was discovered near the present-day judge’s stand). The ramp itself claims 364-feet of vertical drop and a 35-degree in-run, providing for jumps with distance records stretching over 500 feet.

“When we showed up it was a ghost ramp. It not been hit in twenty years,” declares Carlson. “The people helping me from the community where just as committed as I was to hitting the ramp. It was true team effort.”

The film shares nearly two years of unthinkable freestyle skiing progression, with features, locations and cinematography to rival the groundbreaking segment released today. “The jump is truly enormous,” says TGR co-founder Steve Jones. “Hitting a gap this big in general takes significant confidence and skill, not to mention spinning from its lip or dropping in switch. Sammy is unbeatable when it comes to skiing like this.”

Angel Collinson Annihilates Alaska – Segment from “Paradise Waits”

Angel Collinson, the female skier who was honored this September with the award for the Best Female Freeride Performance at the International Freeskiing Film Festival (iF3), linked together a segment that is being called one of the best female skiing segments ever. The segment comes from TGR’s 2015 ski film, Paradise Waits.

The Sammy C Project – Ski Film (2015)

The Sammy C Project – Ski Film (2015)

In 2014, after winning 5 X Games medals, Sammy Carlson abruptly stepped away from competition and dropped out of the Olympic rat race–even as slopestyle skiing was about to make its Winter Olympic debut. Instead, Sammy decided to pursue a new path that would push him and the sport of skiing to new places at all costs.

Sammy’s newfound focus landed in the backcountry, where his drive and creativity could max out far beyond the limits of preset slopestyle courses. The veritable freestyle onslaught that followed–on the world’s mountains, and even on a 240 foot-tall ski flying ramp in Michigan–was unlike any seen before, and would net Sammy three straight X Games Real Ski Backcountry gold medals. The Sammy C Projectdocuments Sammy’s mastery of a new direction for skiing, and shows how convention should never stop you from pursuing the path you believe in.

Produced, written, and directed by Sammy Carlson and Teton Gravity Research.

For Lack Of Better – Street Skiing Film (2015)

For Lack Of Better – Street Skiing Film (2015)

While skis are made for mountains, some only find them useful in cities. These “street skiers” dedicate their lives to traveling from city to city pushing the limits of what is possible on skis in urban environments. Jumping off four story buildings, flying into 50 foot high dams, flipping over staircases; these are some of the most daring athletes in the world. It seems like all fun and games, but horrific injuries, law bending behavior, and their “at all costs” mentality shows that, to them, this is much more. Filmmaker Clayton Vila takes you behind the scenes into a winter with these unique professional skiers.

Paradise Waits – Ski Film (2015)

Paradise Waits – Ski Film (2015)

For those who anticipate winter’s arrival with frothing mouths and the dreams of what may come, this past year came with an unfamiliar set of struggles as these perfect moments became more and more elusive. But for the TGR team, this only hardened their pursuit of winter’s rewards. Through the highs and lows of a curious season, they come to find that the moments found on the other side of adversity are the greatest moments of all.

From the award-winning filmmaking crew that brought you 2014’s Almost Ablaze, comes the story of one weird winter and the people who celebrate it… Paradise Waits – a ski and snowboard film.

Higher Unplugged Web Series

Higher Unplugged Web Series

Higher Unplugged takes you behind the scenes of Jeremy Jones’ two-year snowboarding film, Higher. Jones has gathered friends old and new to pass the torch to the next generation of big mountain rippers.  With these friends, Jeremy leaves tracks on signature lines in the close-to-home playgrounds he’s made his own around Jackson Hole and Lake Tahoe. He also makes history with far-flung first descents in the Eastern Alaska Range and the Himalaya of Nepal, where the stakes are as high as the peaks themselves.

In episode 1 of Jeremy Jones’ Higher Unplugged, Jeremy explains how his approach to exploring and riding mountains has evolved. No longer is he seeking out the iconic peaks, but rather focuses on exploring the “blank spots on the map,” making first descents in remote and uncharted zones. The Deeper, Further, Higher trilogy encapsulates Jeremy’s life as a snowboarder and captures the essence of snowboarding and Jeremy’s love for the mountains.

WAY OF LIFE – Ski Film (2013)

WAY OF LIFE – Ski Film (2013)

For some, embracing the mountains is not just part of life — it’s a way of life. The search for snow shapes not only how they approach these peaks, but also how they approach the world. With stunning imagery created with GSS, Red Cinema, and the Sony Action Cam, this film explores the origins of skiing in Austria, the search for original lines in Alaska, and the U.S. Freeskiing Team’s quest for Olympic gold. The adventure also leads athletes to the rugged terrain of Jackson Hole and the Tetons, as well as the backcountry of British Columbia. Regardless of the terrain they ride, the athletes featured in Way of Life push the boundaries of what’s possible.
