After nearly twenty years of pushing the boundaries in snow sports, Swatch Nines is making another step towards becoming a truly international series. The famous long-running event series, known for its striking terrain features, cinematic visuals, and record setting sessions, is making its highly anticipated debut in Asia next spring. Located on Japan's northern island, Hokkaido, Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU will transform into a freeride playground.
On April 6–11, 2026, a handpicked crew of the world's best skiers, snowboarders, and skateboarders will assemble for a weeklong session. The event will wrap with a Public Day on Saturday, April 11, where fans will get a rare chance to witness the action up close and in person.
Swatch Nines: From the Alps to Hokkaido
What began as a quirky European experiment in 2008 has grown into one of the most respected showcases of progression in action sports. With 22 snow events under its belt (not to mention bike and surf events), Swatch Nines has carved out a distinct lane in the world of freestyle. Instead of standard contests, the gatherings are part photo shoot, part jam session, and part creative experiment.
Now, for the first time, that tradition will meet Japan’s legendary snow culture.
“It’s really special that Swatch Nines is coming to Japan, my home country. I’m excited and super curious how it’s all going to turn out with the different culture and different kind of snow. I can’t wait!”

Japan, Powder Mecca
For skiers, Japan is synonymous with bottomless powder and deep winter soul turns. This event will showcase what Niseko can offer in terms of the terrain park. Less powder, more hangtime.
Still, the region usually receives an absurd amount of snowfall. With an abundance of freshies, we can't wait to see what the builders and organizers come up with.
A New Blend of Progression
The Nines format has always been a nexus of art and sport. Collaboration wins over individual results every time. Riders are encourages not to win, but to push. With a diverse crew of athletes converging in Japan, that ethos should result in some pretty remarkable images, film, and highlights for the rest of us to enjoy.
Stay tuned for athlete announcements and course reveals as Swatch Nines Snow 2026 draws closer. If history is any guide, this one’s going to be something special.
