Surfing the Largest Tidal Bore in the U.S.
Alaska's Turnagain Arm is home to the United States' largest tides, ranging up to 40 feet. The Arm is also home to America's largest tidal bore, a phenomenon in which the incoming tide forms a wave that travels up a river or narrow bay against the direction of the river or bay's current. The Turnagain Arm Bore Tide can be up to six feet tall, and travels for miles up the Arm. Catching the wave would mean a miles-long ride up the Gulf of Alaska, but it's far from easy to catch.

The Arm is also home to some classically Alaskan weather. It's often rainy, windy, choppy, and generally unpleasant. Undeterred, Eric Parker decided to try his hand at SUP-surfing the bore tide. How did it go? You'll have to watch to find out.
