John John Florence Ruptures ACL, Likely Out for the Season

Two-time surfing world champion John John Florence has confirmed that he ruptured his ACL surfing in Brazil and plans to sit the remainder of the season out. Florence aggravated an existing knee injury during a heat at the Oi Rio Pro and pulled out of the competition. As of now, he is still the frontrunner for the Jeep Leaderboard in the World Title race, but will sit out of the upcoming J-Bay competition in South Africa.

Florence says:

This has been a really fun year in competition and outside of the jersey. Unfortunately, in Brazil I ruptured my ACL. I'll be pulling out of J-Bay and likely the rest of the CT season. I'm opting for surgery so I can be 100% next year. I'm excited for this new adventure and everything I will learn along the way. Thanks for all of the support!
