Surfer Ian Walsh Shreds Alaska’s Highest Peak

For much of his life, Ian Walsh has been best known as a professional surfer. Born and raised on Maui, it was only natural that surfing would be his boardsport of choice. However, Walsh has entered the world of big-mountain snowboarding after being introduced to the sport by TGR’s Jones brothers.

Over the past month, Walsh, Danny Davis, Nick Russell, Forrest Shearer, and several other snowboarders headed up to Alaska to spend time exploring Denali, North America’s tallest peak. They achieved their goal of boarding off Denali’s summit, and ticked off some other lines in the area. Check out the highlights from their trip below:

This is the team. Everything we did was entirely a group effort. Summiting, preparing food & water, building out the camp, hauling gear, ticking off lines safely, and sharing experiences that will last a lifetime. It was incredibly inspiring to see how these guys each read and listen to the mountains while they adapt to the ever-changing conditions. Getting to witness their approach first hand gave me so many things I can borrow that directly correlate to the ocean. Being able to follow them up and down while quietly having the mental notebook out and absorbing any info they shared verbally or physically was one of my biggest take aways from this experience. Their ability to cohesively work together is unmatched in anything I have ever been apart of. Big respect for the DST!

Having followed the snow forecast in eager anticipation for multiple weeks, the overworked
