After months of speculation and industry buzz, the verdict is in: Mt. Bachelor isn’t being sold. In a reversal of its August 2024 announcement, POWDR confirmed it will retain ownership of the Central Oregon resort “indefinitely.” Following what it called a comprehensive review of “all facts and circumstances,” the company is shifting its focus from sale to long-term investment and stewardship.

In a public statement, POWDR expressed renewed commitment to the community and the mountain’s future, outlining several major improvements:
-
An upgraded power infrastructure to better serve resort operations
-
Finalizing the Advance Wood Energy facility, a key sustainability initiative
-
A new “Kids Ski Free” program, allowing children 12 and under to ski for free when added to an adult unlimited or Outplay season pass
This decision ends months of uncertainty that had local skiers—and the ski industry at large—wondering whether Mt. Bachelor might be acquired by major players like Alterra Mountain Company or Vail Resorts. The local advocacy group Mt. Bachelor Community, Inc., which had gained national attention for its community-driven bid to purchase the resort, ultimately missed the bidding deadline earlier this year.
POWDR has owned and operated Mt. Bachelor since 2001, and with this announcement, it seems clear they intend to double down on their role as stewards of one of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic ski destinations.
For now, the sale is off—but the upgrades are on. The future of Mt. Bachelor looks bright, sustainable, and just a bit more kid-friendly.
