You might remember a similar headline right around this time last year when the fastest known time up Oregon's Mt. Hood was smashed by a former Navy Seal turned endurance athlete - in his underwear. Well, it turns out that Jack Kuenzle is actually pretty good at this kind of thing and just set a new roundtrip record up and down California's Mt. Shasta at 2:30:48. It took him 2:04 uphill, and a mere 26 minutes back to the base. Again, he did it wearing nothing more than his skivvies and a backpack.
I have managed to find the worst possible sport to try and be a perfectionist, I suppose that’s part of why I picked it but it doesn’t make it any more fun. The funny thing is, this wasn’t even an established/contested record before this. Shasta is such a beautiful mountain and the RT on skis is the most aesthetic record here, something about sliding up and down a big snow mound just makes sense.
