The Spy Platoons are back again for a second season and can easily hold their own in the oversized goggle category. These bad boys are definitely large and in charge. My favorite Platoon model this season is the TSL (The Seventh Letter Crew, an L.A. based artist collective) + Pose (artist) frames that feature sick graphics all over the frames and strap and Pose’s graffiti signature on the lens. These are not janky elementary school graphics that most goggle manufacturers push off on consumers as “cool.” I give big props to Spy for supporting real artists and incorporating actual art into their products. It’s a breath of fresh air.
As for the goggles themselves, the Platoons don’t mess around and deliver a massive field of vision thanks to the large ARC spherical duel lens and they stay fog free all day long with Spy’s legendary Scoop venting (I’ve always been a fan of this technology over the years). I skied with these a good amount last season and they never let me down. I have heard people complain about the Platoons being too big for helmets, but I used them with multiple Bern helmets and a POC helmet and never had a problem. I always recommend that people try on perspective goggles with their helmets first because goggles that are ill fitting or cause gaper gap are not worth it.
The Platoons are a solid choice this season and the TSL+Pose graphics are going to be really hard to beat. If you like to go big or go home, then you’ll be very happy with your decision to rock these Spy Platoon goggles. They also feature a bonus low-light yellow lens too which is a major plus when it comes to value and you’re spending more than a few bucks on a pair of goggles. I can easily recommend the Platoons this season.
