The 2013 Scott Jib Skis are some of the best performing park sticks on the market. Little brother to Scott’s Jib TW, this ski has all the same features except for the race base. But don’t be fooled if you’re not into crushing rails, because you too would enjoy carving with these guys all over the mountain.
Testing
It took Jackson awhile, but finally we have a park worth riding. Between storms and during frequent board meetings, I’ve done enough laps to say the Scott Jib’s are easily one of my favorite skis I’ve tried.
Weight
I’m not sure what to say when it comes to weight because frankly I haven’t noticed either way. Of course sometimes you step into a pair of skis and weight is the first thing you notice. You think, “damn these are clunkers,” or “wow, hope I don’t snap these things in half.” However, the Scott Jibs encourage confidence to ski at whatever level you desire.
Flex
The Jib has a seemingly perfect flex pattern. Stiff enough in the tail for bigger jumps and good energy throughout when you need a bit of extra help.
Turning
The carving potential is perhaps the best surprise of these skis. Yeah this doesn’t directly relate to park or pipe, but you need to make it down from the lift somehow. Honestly, I might have the most fun on perfect groomers making huge arcing GS turns and eventually point them straight downhill.
Control
I’ve alluded to the Jib’s great control throughout this review, but I’ll note again. Once you figure out the characteristics of the 3D sidecut, anything is fair game. Point, turn, pivot, whatever.
Pop
The Jib’s pop is pleasantly focused. Some park skis are sloppy or a bit flimsy, but not the Jib. It’s deliberately active in the areas you need to ollie, nollie, butter, etc.
Pros: A playful park ski that has enough width underfoot (86mm) to feel stable all over the frontside. Carves great and is light enough to encourage spins and inverts.
Cons: Can’t touch the deep stuff, but it’s a park ski after all.
Overall Impression
The 2013 Scott Jib is a great ski. Obviously if you never plan to venture into the park it may not be for you, but if you want the option or are a dedicated park rat this it’s a no brainer. There is a reason why Tom Wallisch and Dane Tudor are on another level. Check out the Jib and see your riding improve.
