Men’s Arc’teryx Atom SV Hoody Review

I have to give big props to Arc’teryx for creating some of my favorite pieces of the 11/12 season. The Atom SV Hoody is one of those pieces.

What makes the Atom SV Hoody great is that it’s a super warm and compressible synthetic Coreloft insulated mid-layer with insulated hoody for skiing and boarding, but it’s also an amazing every day walking-around jacket thanks to the fact that it’s wind resistant and the 100% nylon ripstop fabric features a water repellant coating. When the mercury drops, I wear this jacket to the store, the bar, walking the dog, etc. I love this versatility because most mid-layers just stay in my bag when I’m not skiing. 

This is not the type of piece that you’ll wear every time you go skiing since it is so warm, but when it gets super cold, you won’t want anything else. I grew up skiing in Alaska and I can remember some super cold spells at Alyeska Resort with negative temps where I could have only dreamed of a piece like this while I suffered. This will definitely be going up to AK with me this winter for sure. I hate being cold.

One feature that I found truly unique and completely awesome is the jacket’s stretch woven cuffs. Arc’teryx is truly ahead of the curve here. These cuffs form fit to your wrists so that cold air doesn’t get in and warm air doesn’t get out. Drafts suck and they are a thing of the past with this hoody.

Definitely consider the Atom SV Hoody if you’re looking for one of the most value-loaded mid layers in the game. It’s an amazing deal for only $250 and your old fleece will find its new place in the back of the closet after you start rockin’ this hoody. That’s what happened for me.
