It’s important to set a good example for kids. Be a role model: someone who is kind, honest, and humble. Alternatively, if you are Alexandria Incontro, you can set an example, by being an impromptu death defying free soloist on an off-limits national monument. Who are we to judge, that’s the interweb’s job.
On July 18, Alexandria Incontro got herself into quite the predicament while visiting Mount Rushmore with her two children and family members in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. Incontro took the liberty of scrambling up the historic landmark, ignoring the barrier and warning signs.

Calls began to pour in, prompting a federal officer and park rangers to respond to Incontro’s illegal ascent of the protected landmark. Officials arrested her after she came down to the viewing area. With minor scrapes and wounds from the descent and no climbing equipment, medics tended to her before she was taken to Pennington County Jail. Alexandria Incontro pleaded guilty to the crime and was fined $1,000 and a $30 fee. Charges of trespassing on property not open to the public, violating closure of public use limit and failure to obey a lawful order were dropped by prosecutors.
Folks, let this be a lesson when considering an illegal move like climbing a protected historic monument both barefoot with no gear and in front of family members.
