Teton Gravity Research Announces Groundbreaking Multimedia Surf Project

TGR and Garage Entertainment join forces with filmmaker Taylor Steele to present Proximity, a cross-generational gathering of surfing’s elite.

JACKSON, Wyo. (June 21, 2016) In the spring of 2017, global youth-culture media leader Teton Gravity Research (TGR) and Garage Entertainment will unveil Proximity, a new multimedia project that pairs surfing’s living legends with today’s most progressive young surfers. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Taylor Steele, Proximity showcases present-day surfing icons from different generations in diverse locations around the world.

Today, surf fans get an exclusive, behind-the scenes glimpse of Proximity’s personalities, places, and production in the first episode of Chronicles - The Making of Proximity. Presented by LifeProof, the four-episode, mobile-first series will kick start the journey toward Proximity’s cinematic climax. “I feel like my entire body of work has been building towards this production,” Steele says. “This unique creative union with TGR and Garage Media came from our desire to do something in surfing that hasn't been done before. Utilizing the latest technology, traveling to the far corners of the globe with my favorite surfers, and presenting in film, photos, virtual reality, and print media. It’s pretty much my dream project.”

Steele, surfing’s most prolific and respected film director, began his career filming the young Kelly Slater and has been immortalizing surf culture for more than 25 years. Proximity is his first surf film in six years, and is poised to be his crowning achievement. Originally conceived by Steele and photographer Todd Glaser, Proximity will feature a spectacular lineup of all-star surfers.

“Not only is Proximity the product of surfing’s greats,” says TGR’s CEO Todd Jones, “but it was produced using modern 4k and VR cameras that capture epic cinematography from land, sea, and air. It is shaping up to be the most eye-catching project I have had the opportunity to work on. TGR is truly proud to be involved.”

The 10 Most Masshole Things That Went Down at The Fenway Big Air

At a young age, a kid growing up in Massachusetts may start enjoying the Bruins, the Patriots, or the Red Sox. Maybe the kid gets a little aggressive when another kid takes their toy at recess, or cuts them off in the jungle gym, or their favorite Sox player blows a blunt to miss the playoff cut. This could be the start of the slippery slope to becoming, what people across the state have termed, a "Masshole."  Massholes are an aggressive creature, especially while driving. They have

Snapchatting Everest Climbers Reach Summit After 29 Days

Professional mountaineers Cory Richards and Adrien Ballinger have now been snapchatting under the Everestnofilter account for nearly two months. After much thought and deliberation they saw Tuesday (May 24) as the correct time to start their final summit push.  Neither of these very accomplished climbers have reached the summit of 29,029' without supplemental oxygen, something that less than 3% of Everest climbers attempt. While dozens die every year attempting the summit with breathing

Bros Bearly Survive Bruin Break-In

My favorite part about bear videos this summer have been the screams. After the reactions in this video of a bear opening a car door in Yellowstone, I didn't think that I would hear a male voice at a higher pitch. I was wrong. When Rodney Ginn realizes his Mammoth Lakes, CA home has been broken into by a mama bear and her two cubs, he pretty much just loses it (rightly so).  RELATED: Bear Officially Out-Evolves Yellowstone Tourists, Opens Car Door The mother bear charges Rodney up the stairs,
