Alaska, known as the last frontier and largest state in America, is on many bucket lists to explore its beauty and magnificence. The interior offers many parks, rivers, and scenic drives, while the exterior offers cruisers an opportunity to see some of Alaska's port cities. It's famous for Denali National Park and the Iditarod sled race. You'll want to discover as much of Alaska as you possibly can, especially since the company is paying for your trip. The tourist season is in the summer because of the harsh winters. Why not begin in Fairbanks and travel down to Anchorage?
Fairbanks
It's the largest city in the interior part of Alaska and is home to the University of Alaska Fairbanks. One of the most interesting tours in Fairbanks is the Riverboat Discovery. This tour takes you down the Chena River where you'll visit the Chena Indian Village. You'll see first-hand how the Athabascan Indians and their culture influenced Alaska. You'll also cruise past the Trail Breaker Kennels, made famous by Susan Butcher, a four-time Iditarod champion. Visitors can experience the lifestyle in one of Alaska's top kennels for mushing. You'll be able to interact with the dogs and watch as they take short runs around the lake. They are amazing dogs and you'll fall in love with each one of them! Enjoy your employee incentive program as you continue to Denali, Talkeetna, and Anchorage.
Denali
One of the highlights of your trip is taking the scenic Wilderness Express train from Fairbanks to Denali. This is one of the best ways to view the beauty of Alaska with its glass-domed cars. Once in Denali, you'll want to take one of the tours into the park. The park has limited access to preserve its ecosystem, so hop on a bus and check out this magnificent park. Hopefully you'll catch a glimpse of moose, caribou, grizzly bears, wolves, and sheep. If Denali is visible, you'll be able to see its grandeur. It may be the highlight of your trip! There is also rafting and hiking available if that's on your list.
Talkeetna
One of Alaska's gems is the town of Talkeetna. It's known as the inspiration of the television show, "Northern Exposure" and is the main place for climbers to start their climb of Denali. This is also one of the best places to take a flightseeing trip. Fishing or rafting is also quite popular. You may want to spend some time in the town, just walking around and looking at the unique shops. It's a great place to hunt for an Alaskan souvenir.
Anchorage
Anchorage is Alaska's largest city and is where more than 40% of Alaskans live. Some of the highlights to visit include the port and Earthquake Park. You'll also want to visit Lake Hood and Bootleggers Cove, which is home to the busiest seaplane base in the world. To gain more knowledge of the many cultures found in Alaska, visit the Alaska Heritage Culture Center. Anchorage is a very modern city with tourism and petroleum being a large part of their economy. The U.S. Airforce base of Elmendorf is also located just outside of Anchorage.
Alaska will be one of the best vacations you'll ever take. No wonder it's always one of the top destinations for people to visit from all over the world. You'll want to take a camera and clothes to dress in layers as the climate may be warm during the day, but fairly cool at night. The people are very friendly and proud. After all, Alaska is the largest state in the United States. It's definitely a land for adventure and beauty!
