The PNW Heat Wave Melts Records

Temperatures soar in the PNW, record breaking heat in the triple digits making history as the hottest days the region has ever seen. | NWS Weather Prediction Center photo.

Recently, insane high temperatures have rocked most of the pacific northwest, breaking records as some of the hottest days in history. Affecting Washington, Oregon, and extending into Southern California, the National Weather Service describes the heat wave as

extremely dangerous and can be deadly if proper heat safety is not followed.

These temperatures are not only melting popsicles, the triple digit heat has also canceled Olympic qualifying events and even led to power outages, causing 3,000 people to lose electricity in their homes. The heat isn’t neglecting higher elevations either, a recent Instagram post by the Mount Rainier National Park Service warned hikers of the potential dangers caused by snow and ice melt on Mount Rainier’s meadows and upper slopes. What are people doing to cool off? Most are letting their AC bill soar, others are going straight to the river, and officials scramble to open ‘cooling centers’ providing air conditioning to those who are desperate for shelter from the boiling sun. Keep it cool and godspeed PNW.
