While the Wasatch is seeing historic snowfall records forcing resort closures due to avalanche danger, many parts of the Alps are not off to a good start to the winter. In fact, the famed Les Gets bike park - just a few valleys over from the Mont Blanc Massif - reopened its lifts to mountain bikers due to a lack of snow. Typically this time of year is a highpoint of the ski season with holiday travelers heading to the French Alps to get their piste fix. Instead, it might make sense to bring your DH bike and rip laps on the area’s famed downhill tracks.
On December 24, Les Gets reported that heavy rain and warm temperatures caused some landslides that damaged chairlifts and made other slopes unstable. The warm temperatures and lack of snowfall are prevalent across the Alps - with many ski resorts elsewhere in France unable to open. This is a continuing multi-year trend, particularly in the greater Mont Blanc area, where glaciers have been melting at a rapid pace leading to unsafe conditions in the high mountains.

What a shame we do not have such parks here in Sweden! I was planning to go to French Alps, but the flights are way too expensive from Stockholm. Plus, paying extra for my bike costs more than the flight ticket alone. positive s words
