Big Boulder's terrain parks are its best claim to fame. PennLive photo.
In January 2015, James Ashmen Jr. fractured his tibia while snowboarding at Big Boulder, Pennsylvania after colliding midair with a snowmaking machine on a closed run. He subsequently sued the resort, with his attorney arguing that Big Boulder's evidently-ineffective closure of the run was negligent.

According to the Legal Intelligencer Ashmen's lawyer asked for money to cover his medical treatment, and also contended that the injury has precluded Ashmen from achieving his goal of becoming a police officer, further inflating the costs associated with the accident.
Over four years later, a federal jury has awarded Ashmen $2.5 million dollars for his troubles.

The guy was riding a closed run. Why should he be awarded anything but a dumbass slap upside the head. So unfair to the ski area. Ashmen is an ass.
