Several Avalanches Reported in the Canadian Rockies

Several small and midsize avalanches were triggered by backcountry skiers in the Canadian Rockies last weekend. The region has a deep early season snowpack thanks to a couple of recent storms, with nearly three feet of snow at elevation. Folks have been taking advantage, but evidence indicates that the snowpack isn't especially stable. Three avalanches were reported in the mountains of eastern British Columbia last weekend, all skier-triggered, and all size two, according to reports posted on the Avalanche Canada website. It's a reminder that we should be careful in the backcountry regardless of the season or snowpack depth.

Be safe out there, guys. It's a long season, and it would be a bummer to get taken out before things even get started.
