Mount Bachelor Sees Freak Summer Dusting Ahead of Trail Opening

Mount Bachelor was dusted with rare summer snow on June 21, thanks to a brief cold front. Just days before summer operations begin, the summit turned white again—if only for a moment.

Mount Bachelor, located in Central Oregon’s Cascade Range, woke up to a thin white blanket on the morning of June 21, as snow dusted the upper mountain just in time for the first official day of summer.

Webcam footage from the resort captured a wintery scene more reminiscent of November than late June, just days before Bachelor’s summer operations are set to launch.

While snow in June isn’t unheard of at high elevations, it’s still a rare treat for this time of year. A brief cold front moved through the region overnight, dropping summit temperatures to a chilly 31°F early Saturday morning—cold enough for light snow accumulation above treeline.

Mount Bachelor officially wrapped its winter season on Memorial Day (May 26) and has since shifted focus to its summer offerings—mountain biking, hiking, scenic lift rides, and more. The resort has discouraged public access to the slopes during the transition, with crews hard at work prepping trails and facilities for summer use.

Bachelor’s summer opening day is scheduled for June 26, and resort officials say the brief snow won’t delay operations. Forecasts call for warmer, drier conditions next week, which should leave trails in prime shape just in time for opening day. Hero Dirt!
