JHMR Ski Patrol Triggers Avalanche With Massive Crown

After the Tetons reported record-breaking snowfall for the month of February long before Washington’s birthday even passed, it’s no surprise that the snow led to some pretty serious avalanches. On Monday, JHMR ski patrol reported explosively triggering an avalanche next to the Tram dock with an estimated 14-foot crown.

Check out that monster in the pictures above. If you were on the mountain that day, you likely saw it, just to the right of Corbet’s Couloir.

The massive amounts of heavy, wet snowfall – 121 inches with 10 inches of water equivalent – led to some serious stress put on the snowpack. Over the weekend, several avalanches were triggered by skiers and riders, including one that buried two skiers who were recovered alive on Teton Pass, and a large avalanche triggered south of the Grand Targhee boundary.
