Hunter Mountain Announces Additions to Expansion Project

Since Peak Resorts purchased New York State's Hunter Mountain in January 2016, the company has been in the process of expanding the mountain's terrain. In April 2018, the company got the official go-ahead with the Hunter North Expansion Project, which originally add a 6-person detachable chair lift and five new trails.

However, Hunter Mountain announced today that the expansion has grown to include four additional glade trails due to popular demand by customers, according to Daniel Kenney, PR and Communications Manager for Hunter Mountain.

While many resort expansions include more expert terrain, Hunter's new trails will add more intermediate trails, of which the area currently does not have many.

"We understand the needs of our customer base," said Kenney. "We're renowned for our beginner and expert terrain, but making the jump between the two is a challenge. We needed to fill that gap and make customers more comfortable skiing."

According to the resort's original press release, the construction would increase the resort's acreage by about 25%. However, with the additional expansion, the resort will increase its total acreage by nearly 1/3 with 80 acres of new skiable terrain.

The project's name has been coined The Hunter North Expansion as it will cover he mountain's northern slope. The entire project is expected to cost around $9 million, but the resort hopes that the excitement of new terrain will increase visitation.

"It's going to be incredibly exciting for customers to be able to come to the mountain and have something new to ski," said Kenney. "It's always a good day when you're skiing on new terrain."
