On Monday, a hiker slipped and fatally fell while descending the Yosemite Half Dome trail according to CNN.
The incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. on the section with metal cables, which assists hikers through the steepest part of the hike. Attempting to descend the 8,800-foot rock face amidst a thunderstorm, the victim was hiking down with another person when he slipped.
The shaken second hiker was uninjured, but required assistance from park officials. Meanwhile the fallen hiker’s body was recovered at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
This marks the first death on the infamous Half Dome cables since 2010, and first fatality for Yosemite in 2018.
