Epic Alert for the Rockies! 2-4 Feet Storm Totals Likely

The “White Room” has arrived for many resorts especially the Wasatch, Sierra, North and central Cascades, and the Tetons. Many areas scored big points last night with 8-14 inches at upper elevations of Grand Targhee and JHMR. The Cottonwoods in Utah (Brighton, Solitude, Alta, Snowbird) nabbed 14-16 inches. Many resorts reported 16-18 inches in the Sierra yesterday (Kirkwood, Mammoth, Sugar Bowl, Heavenly) with up to three feet at the summit of Mammoth. 

“The next system is going to slam the Northern and Central Wasatch with 12-18 inches.” The northern and central Wasatch resorts like Snowbasin, Powder, Beaver Mountain all stand high a chance of significant snow including Little Cottonwood Canyon. 

This storm should outperform, with widespread snowfall to the Salt Lake Valley. Park City who received 5-7 inches yesterday should nab another 5-11 inches through tonight. The Cascades added another 12 -14 inches up north (Baker) since yesterdays report, 5-10 central (Stevens Pass) and 4-7 southern (Crystal). 15-30 inches has fallen in the Cascades in the past week (North favored). Additional snow will be falling in the Cascades today so expect another 4-8 inches at many resorts with additional snow late this week.

Rocky Mountain Details

The next round of moisture is just entering central Idaho and northern Utah this morning. Heavy snow will break out over the Wasatch (Northern and central zones favored) and continue thorough the evening hours. 

The Tetons who will be on the northern edge will grab 4-6 additional inches. Snow will be filling in nicely this afternoon over Colorado with a wide area of 5-10 inches by Tuesday morning. West or NW flow should benefit resorts from Silverton up through Steamboat and all mountain areas over I-70 through Summit and Eagle Counties. Resorts on our chase bucket if they were open would include all of northern Utah, Crested Butte, Silverton, Aspen, Steamboat, Beaver Creek where 7-10 inches are likely. Snowbird is officially open in Utah with limited terrain. Summit County and resorts closer to Denver should be in the 4-8 inch range by late tonight and currently has terrain open. Southern resorts from Telluride, Durango, Wolf Creek (60% open), and Taos are in the mix as moisture drops south into New Mexico. Expect 3-7 inches in many areas with the higher end in Telluride and Taos (Likes NW flow).

Additional systems are likely for the Cascades and BC this week with perhaps another decent storm for the Rockies by late this weekend!
