A 24-year-old British climber died while climbing the Matterhorn, according to SWI. Hit by a falling boulder, the victim fell a significant distance, coming to rest approximately 1,000 feet down the wall. The man was already dead when first responders reached his body, but luckily his two climbing partners were both rescued unharmed by emergency services. Local authorities have opened an investigation into the death.

Casualties on the Matterhorn rose sharply in 2018, with the rise attributed in part to a deep snowpack. With another year of heavy snow in the Alps, this summer's mountaineering season may see a repeat of the same dangerous conditions.
