The body of Dan Wallick, a 41-year-old Air Force employee who went missing on July 24th after climbing Kit Carson Peak and Challenger Point, has been found by Custer County Search and Rescue teams. Wallick had spoken to his family after summiting the two Colorado 14ers, but was reported missing after failing to contact them again by the following day.

According to an Air Force spokeswoman, Wallick was stationed at Schriever Air Force Base and had been working in integrated missile defense since June 10th. Colorado’s 14ers are a popular attraction, bringing thousands of hikers and climbers to the state each summer. Most remain safe, but tragic accidents like this are far more common than they should be.
