The county’s public health nursing manager Sara Lopez stated that the risk of contracting mumps while visiting Arapahoe Basin was minimal, however she urged everyone to stay up to date with vaccinations against diseases like measles, rubella and mumps. Mumps is a contagious viral disease characterized by swelling in the salivary glands in the cheeks combined with fever and fatigue. It is spread through saliva and has a long incubation period, typically 16-18 days, making it hard to track.

Arapahoe Basin says it has taken necessary precautions and is working with the state and county authorities to ensure the health and safety of its guests.
