Video: Alex Honnold’s Signature Spatula and Other Wacky Gear

For some reason, outdoor gear companies seem to embrace the spirit of April Fools Day more than almost any other subset of businesses. Every year they come up with outrageous products that straddle the line between ridiculous and pretty cool. This year was no exception, and so we've put together a brief list of our favorite silly gear "released" on or around April 1st.

Black Diamond's Alex Honnold Signature Spatula:

As anyone who has seen Free Solo knows, Alex Honnold's preferred eating utensil is also his preferred cooking utensil: the trusty spatula. Taking note of Alex's affinity for the versatile tool, Black Diamond worked with him to produce the perfect 'spatch. The coolest part? 100% of the proceeds from every sale goes to the Honnold Foundation, which promotes solar energy for a more equitable world. Pick up your spatula here!

Reef's "Fanning Pack":

The perfect accessory for the beach-residing surf bum, Reef's new "Fanning Pack" boasts a bottle opener, onboard recycling, sandal storage, and a stash of mini-wet-wipes. Talk about fashion and function!

Pit Viper's Xtreme Blue Jeans:

Did someone mention fashion and function? No discussion of silly-yet-functional gear is complete without a shoutout to Pit Viper, the prime purveyor of ridiculous-looking yet strangely practical items. Their new XBJs are essentially blue jeans with integrated gaiters, perfect for those who enjoy skiing in jeans but don't enjoy getting slush in places where it doesn't belong. Pick up a pair here!
