Last night, at TGR’s annual Family Dinner, co-founders Todd and Steve Jones welcomed the latest round of inductees into the TGR Hall of Fame. Joining this ongoing list of legends, Reese Edwards, Tate MacDowell, and Jeremy Nobis were announced as the 2019 members. Edwards and Nobis were instrumental athletes in the early days of TGR, and MacDowell showed his skills as a legend behind the lens. They join Rick Armstrong, Micah Black, Doug Coombs, Kent Kreitler, and Julie Zell. As every year, past and current athletes and TGR team members gather to vote on who joins.
Reese Edwards
Jackson Hole, Wyoming has always been a haven of the underground ripper. Heck, the local OG ski posse’s motto is “swift, silent, deep.” Reese Edwards counts as one of the best among that highly impressive crowd and is in large part one of the reasons Todd and Steve Jones started the company in 1996. These days, perhaps one of the only things you'll find online about this underground Jackson Hole skier is a legendary opening segment from TGR's early years of filming. But there is much more than that. Edwards was a staple and a crowd favorite in the older TGR films, including flicks like The Realm and The Big One. Todd and Steve Jones wanted to feature skiers like Edwards that weren't getting attention from the rest of the community or industry, so consider this one an ode to all those under-the-radar skiers and boarders that just do it for the love of doing it.
Tate MacDowell
As a master cinematographer and editor, Tate MacDowell is the first non-athlete to be inducted to the TGR Hall of Fame. MacDowell cut seven feature-length films, and was a major driving force behind TGR's early web series like This Show Socks as well as his own action sports ventures like Roner Vision under his own production company Death Cookie Entertainment. After moving away from the Tetons to pursue additional opportunities, Tate was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. While in the hospital undergoing treatment, MacDowell decided he wanted to climb the Grand Teton with his new friend Brian McDonnell, a fellow cancer patient. Their attempt to climb the mountain and beat cancer was documented in TGR’s 2018 film Mountain in the Hallway. The film is an incredibly intimate look at what it takes to conquer the unknown in an entirely new way. Tate tragically passed away this October only weeks after being inducted, but his spirit lives on with TGR.
Jeremy Nobis
Jeremy Nobis was one of the pioneers of the aggressive big-mountain skiing that has become TGR's hallmark. He pushed the boundaries of what could be done on skis back in the 90s, before the powder-ski revolution, blowing minds in early TGR films like Harvest and Uprising. His career with TGR began when Todd and Steve Jones invited him to an early trip to Alaska, and Nobis blew everyone's minds with his ability to reduce massive faces to just a few turns, if any. His ability to fearlessly charge big AK lines cemented him as one of the sport's legends, not to mention that he competed in the 1994 Winter Olympics.
