Teton Backcountry Alliance Says: SOCIAL DISTANCE OR LOSE ACCESS

For God's sake, keep it mellow out there. Lily Krass photo.

In response to overcrowding in parking lots at Grand Targhee and on Teton Pass this week, the Teton Backcountry Alliance issued the following message to remind us that skiing is in fact a privilege right now. Our world is facing an incredible fight, and we all (backcountry skiers and snowboarders are no exception) need to take this very seriously. Recreation might seem like the only way to stay sane for many of us, but that does not make us an exception to any social distancing rules.

At this point, and especially in light of the fact that most other skiers and snowboarders worldwide are forced to stay home, it’s clear that our access something we must treasure. Let’s take this time to be extra responsible, courteous, and most of all SAFE. This might just ensure that we get to ski and ride for a bit longer this season.

If you can’t follow the simple rules of staying 6 feet apart, keeping it mellow, and respecting closures, please stay home!
