First Impressions: 2017 Niner Jet9 RDO at Big Sky Resort Bike Test

Many testers remarked how pretty the bike was. Niner photo.

We'll be posting a full review and video of this bike from TGR's Big Sky Resort Bike Test, so stay tuned for that, but here's a quick peek behind the curtain of what's sure to be one of the hotter bikes for the next year or so.

The new Jet 9 RDO now has 17-point-nothing-inch chainstays, a longer 17.5" reach, steeper 74.5° seat tube angle, boost hubs, 67.5° head angle, 130 mm travel up front, 120mm travel in the rear, and you can run—hold onto your hats—27.5" + wheels. Yep, it's still Niner we're talking about. A quick search reveals the url seven-fiver.com is still available. Anyone?

Same as it ever was. Best tagline in bike marketing. Ryan Dunfee photo.

The bike was very well-received by our testers–below are a few choice quotes from their reviews.

"The bike is for someone who likes to charge any and all terrain, and can handle more advanced lines."

"The legacy of a great climber remains with this new version despite the additional trail capabilities."

"Climbs like a freaking goat!"

"The bike has really come into its own as a flowy trail killer."

"Descends fast very confidently and has a very plush yet nimble feel."

We tore this bike through jump lines, bike parks, singletrack, flowy berms, and climbed the heck out of it in Big Sky, Montana. In Big Sky, Terra Flow build berms that somehow seem to be greater than 180 degrees.

Check back soon to see the bike in action and read all the details of how the Niner's components and build held together on all the rough stuff we threw at it.

Price?!?!

Good question. The reason it’s not in there was the bike we got from niner had the Stans ZTR Arch wheels from their 3-star XT build, which comes in at $5500, but had the fox Kashima 34 fork and fox shock with EVOL aircan from their 4-star XT build (which includes ENVE wheels and runs $8500). The Stan’s wheels performed great. So the bike we tested would run closer to that $5500 dollar mark - but if you buy it off niner’s site, would come with the Rockshox Monarch shock.

Ya, I went to the Niner site and couldn’t match which setup you guys had tested. Thanks for the info, the bike looks sweet!

The new jet 9 RDO has great features. I like this one. Thanks for the information. Picsart for PC bike looks really great
