Audi Nines MTB Returns for 2021, Women are Included
As the world starts to return to some sense of normalcy, more and more MTB events are announcing their return. The latest to make a comeback is the Audi Nines MTB event, which will host a handful of the best slopestyle and freeride mountain bikers come August. The venue will once again be at the Mars-like quarry in Hunsrück-Nahe, Germany, and be entirely focused on style and progression. While the progression session will largely be similar to years past, there’s one big change that’s worth celebrating. For the first time, the Audi Nines will include female athletes. In a time when women’s talent is off the charts, the event recognizes the need to be more inclusive and welcoming. They released a statement saying,
The time has come for Audi Nines to debut the much-needed addition of Mountain Biking’s top women into the Audi Nines family. The drive to make Audi Nines more inclusive and equal comes at a time when women’s talent in Mountain Biking is exploding, and riders are pushing their limits to develop the sport like never before. This integration provides new space for the expanding MTB community to demonstrate their talents on a global stage. Freeride and Slopestyle riders will have the chance to push themselves in an environment that isn’t driven by points and podiums but instead through creativity and freedom of expression.
The full list of invited athletes has been released, and Audi Nines has two additional spots—male and female—for wildcard entries. These spots will be decided by an online video contest, which aims to find undiscovered talent in the industry. The deadline to submit entries for the contest is August 15th, and the event will be held from August 24th-28th.
