Once again, we are raising a section among the cyclists. We hunted for new guests, we went a long way from our southern border, but not by car or by bike, we found it through the youtube channel. His POV films have attracted us at the end of last year , when we tried to publish a video collage with Andi Qyqja and the Albanian treasures .
Who is Andi?
I'm Andi Qyqja (he tries to read "Kikdzha"), a mountain biker, along with a licensed trainer from the UCI International Cycling Federation, and finally a cycling guide. During my free time, I discover the wildest and remote parts of Albania.
Where are U from?
Im from Albania and I live in Tirana.
How long do you mountain bike?
Let’s say since I was a child but I had a break during the period that I played football in Albania but I have a total of 10 years that Im dedicated to mtb.
Your favorite bike?
Mmmm… I quite like some types or better I have been pedaling different bikes over this years but definitely my favorite bike ever will remain Giant Glory.
Do you race or just riding for fun?
In fact both of them, for fun but also racing since this last years in Albania are organized races in different disciplines like XC, Enduro, DH. Im always present during Enduro and DH races.
Mountain bike in Albania? How do you describe it?
A developing industry not only in sports but also in tourism.
Andi and Gaspi,Andi was one of the local guides in Richard Gasperotti's film when he visited cycling destinations in the Balkans
How many mountain bikers are in your country? Do you have mtb races, cups, events?
Thinking about how many riders we were 10 years ago when the wind of change affected this sport I can truly say that the number has multiplied every year. As I said before during this years are handled many events in different MTB disciplines, until last year we had a calendar for mtb competitions, and they organized almost 15 different events in disciplines like xc, enduro, DH. The only race / event that is not interrupted is the race of XC Marathon, which takes place in January , while enduros and DH competitions currently are interrupted. About the cups lets say that in all races DH and Enduro and even in the two pump tracks that I have take place this seven last years I have always been part of the podium. If you would like to know how many times I have won the first place I wouldn’t tell (lol).
How is with trail building in your country? Is mountain biking legal everywhere, or are there some places where you can't or is forbiden to go with mountain bike?
At the time being there are no places or an exact trail built for mtb. All trails that you can find in Albania are hiking trails or trails which are opened by different local shepherds to climb to the mountains but a small MTB community in Tirana are joining together to build some new trails around Dajti mountain in Tirana which will be for MTB only.Ah, in Albania only E-bike are illegal.(Lol) The are few places that MTB is forbidden, only at the abandoned military zones but in the other areas you can enjoy riding whenever you want.
Mountain bike community in your country, is it big?
The number of riders is increasing every year.
During the Deravica Race in the third edition
You have a youtube channel and also instagram profile. There are a lot of movies about the trails in Albania. What is the point of those movies and clips?
Yes its true, its been a while that I have opened an instagram account in which except the videos I write a short paragraph describing the trail. In YouTube I have been uploading videos for a long time, I have arrived at 121 episode from all over Albania. After uploading a video on YouTube I always write that ”the purpose of these videos its only to educate MTB folks in Albania”. I want that all my videos to be used as reference point for the MTB community so they can get to know that Albania has many trails even though wild ones which except hiking are perfect even for MTB. So grab your bike and go try that trail! Now things are getting easier because every trail that I finish I upload it in Trailforks so the chances to find the trails are easier.
Put a message for slovenian bikers why they must visit albania and try your mountain bike trails!
Mmmm…. If you have never tried to climb a mountain which is 2000 meters above sea level, without a cabin car or an alternative road which can lead up to the peak and you wanna try that trail with your bike and your bag on your arms then give me a call and you are more then welcome to join me Sllovenian bikers! Na zdravje
Is Viathon's new mountain bike the real deal? We decided to give it a test at Outerbike to find out. Viathon Photo. Walmart isn’t a brand most turn to for upgrading their bike, but Viathon could change that perception. The bikes launched last April, and when word got out that Walmart was quietly supporting the brand, it caused quite the stir. Flying with your bike just got cheaper, as long as you don't exceed the weight limit. Max Ritter photo. Following suit from competitors like American Airlines and Alaska, Delta Airlines eliminated its $150 flat fee for oversize sporting equipment. Until now, flying with a bike, surfboard, or other large sports gear would come with a hefty price tag. Those days are gone (sort of), under the new rule that treats this as regular luggage.
