5 Ways To Stay in Shape While Staying Outside

The benefits of exercise are clear, as are the benefits of spending time in nature. Still, it can be difficult to find the time and motivation to make both happen on a consistent basis. Your time spent outside doesn’t have to mean you give up time spent on keeping in shape, though. Here are some tips on how to stay fit while maintaining your outdoor routine.

1.Set Yourself Up for Success

The key to staying in shape in any capacity is setting yourself up for success before you even begin to work out. This starts with your diet. Eating a healthy, balanced diet and drinking lots of water helps your body be at its best and ready to train. You can supplement this with the best fat burner that supports your body and kick starts weight loss. This will help your body make the most of any activity you do. Having the right gear like trail running shoes, a good water bottle and sweat-wicking clothing also makes it easier to exercise outdoors. Your gear selection will of course become more specific to the activities you choose, but even purchasing one or two items can make your adventures all the more enjoyable and effective.

2.Move Your Gym Workout Outside

Look at your regular gym routine and find ways to incorporate it into your time outdoors. If you like to use the treadmill or stationary bike, you can easily do both outside. Google Maps has a feature that allows you to find bike trails in your area, making it easy to move your sweat session closer to nature. You don’t need to skip your strength training, though. Kayaking is a great arm workout, for example, or you can set up your dumbbells and a towel or mat by the lake for a quick upper body and ab session.

3.Challenge Yourself

If you already find yourself being active while you’re spending time in the great outdoors, try creating a new challenge for yourself. Do you have a favorite hiking spot? Time yourself on your regular pace on your hike, and then create a goal time to beat on your next one. Push yourself to take the more difficult path on your bike (those hills are calling your name), or try running a moderate hiking or walking trail. If you spend a lot of time on the water, try setting a swimming goal for yourself or do some water aerobics.

4.Find a Buddy

Having someone to help you focus on staying in shape while you’re on outdoor adventures together can make a world of difference. A buddy helps push you to that next goal, find new challenges and make it more fun. Accountability is also important to staying fit, so come up with a plan and stick to it. Keep it fun to make sure that you remain motivated. Take turns bringing a new idea to the table and do it together. Trying something new is much less intimidating if you have a friend to do it with you.

5.Get Creative

Try a new activity like rock climbing, kayaking or snowshoeing — you never know, you may just find your new favorite hobby. You can also get creative with your current routine by doing a set of body-weight exercises on your next camping trip or sprinting up and down the hill on your favorite walking trail. Look for any opportunity to get moving, even if it’s just for a few minutes a day. Never underestimate the power of a 15-minute walk or a 20-minute bike ride. It can help you clear your head, connect with nature and get your body in shape faster than you’d think.

Prioritizing time outside doesn’t mean you have to give up your physical fitness. In fact, the two often go hand-in-hand. With a little planning and creativity, you can keep yourself in top shape while you soak in the sunshine.
