1. Fuel Up

So, you should take time before diving into an outdoor sport to study up on the ins and outs of it. The best way to make sure your body is going to benefit from whatever awesome sport you choose is to make sure you know the best way to perform that sport. For example, mountain biking can be great for upping your cardiovascular health, toning your legs, strengthening you core and many other things. In order for you to experience all of those benefits, there are certain things you need to be doing on the bike to make it happen. One thing would be to pay attention to your body's position on the bike so that the force is transferred to the right places of your body so that you get some fitness gains and do not injure yourself.
4. Pack Up
Sure a heavier pack on a trail run can be cumbersome, but you definitely do not want to find yourself in the middle of a surprise rainstorm without a jacket because you decided earlier that it was too heavy. There are a few things many seasoned outdoor athletes will tell you you need on your back if you are going out in the woods for a while. This usually includes a headlamp, some nutrition, some water and some extra layers. Having these backup plans on you allows you to be less stressed about events outside of your control, like a change in weather, and more focused on your fitness gains.
5. Get Creative
If specific outdoor sports are not your thing, don't be afraid to get creative. Are you more of a gym rat who just wants some fresh air? Just take your typical workout outside and adapt it. Use a tree limb for some pull ups, lean against it for a wall sit or even throw some resistance bands around the trunk and get a workout in. Not only will it benefit you physically to push through challenges and make decisions on the fly. It will also grow your mental fortitude which will definitely contribute to better numbers in the weight room.

She broke the trail speed record on the Oregon section of the PCT after traversing 455 miles over seven days.
