For those who enjoy the great outdoors, camping is a must-try activity. Getting a chance to bond with nature and get away from the busyness of life can be a wonderful way to decompress; however, that is only true if you are prepared. Everyone who has ever been camping knows the importance of supplies and the impact that preparation can have on the overall experience. Being overly packed can lead you to a heavy, weighed down hike while being underprepared can leave you hungry and uncomfortable. Don’t let yourself be unprepared for your next outdoor adventure and equip yourself with these 5 camping essentials.
Enjoying the great outdoors is only possible if everyone commits to improving the planet. If you want to support a healthier environment when you are camping, make sure that you bring reusable supplies instead of one-time-use products. Instead of plastic bags to carry supplies, grab a tote bag and instead of disposable plates and utensils, opt for reusable options. While you will need to devote some time to cleaning these later, they will be well worth the time commitment when you can enjoy camping adventures for years to come.
For anyone who has ever been camping before, you know the drastic difference that can occur in temperature between daytime and nighttime. This means that you need to be prepared with the proper clothing options for camping, including light layers, waterproof options and moisture-wicking clothing. You do not want to weigh down your pack with too many pieces of clothing, so make sure to pack intelligently. Another aspect that you cannot forget to plan for is your boots. Whatever shoes you are wearing for walking should be broken in, comfortable, supportive and sturdy to support your outdoor adventure to avoid blisters and discomfort as you make your way along the way.
Light, Heat and Fire
While you will have the comfort of cozy clothing and the light from the sun, make sure that you are sufficiently prepared for lighting and heating for when the sun goes. Lighting devices like lanterns and headlamps can help illuminate your path, while substances like fuel, matches and a lighter can help you start a fire to prepare dinner and to keep you warm. These elements will prove useful if you are spending the night or enjoying long periods outdoors. Regardless of the duration of your trip, make sure that you don’t forget batteries too.
Snacks and Food Supplies
You will need to keep your body fueled during your camping trip which means you need food. Packing high protein options and plenty of snacks will help you while you are on the go. While prepackaged snacks are easy to grab, you can even go the extra mile and prepare your own camping snacks. If you have a lengthy trip, make sure that you bring along supplies to also prepare your food. Everything from utensils to pans to portable devices can help you fuel back up after a grueling day of hiking. While not nutritious, you don’t want to forget your supplies to make s’mores which are a camping classic, and they certainly are delicious.
Toiletries and Personal Care
While you are exploring the great outdoors, you will not need many of the toiletries and common personal care supplies that you often use at home. Although this is true, some toiletries are a must-have for any camping trip, including the basics like toilet paper, hand sanitizer, sun protection, etc. to just name a few. Consider running through a camping checklist to ensure that you have everything that you need along the way. Make sure that you have everything to see to your needs along the trip and you will be sure to find the experience more enjoyable.
Camping trips are adventures that are sure to make memories for a lifetime; however, you don’t want your next camping trip to be memorable because it was a disaster. You can make sure that you are prepared with these 5 essential items so that you are ready for just about anything.
