Danny Davis, for the uninitiated, is one of snowboarding’s more influential riders. Born in Highland, Michigan, Davis starting snowboarding young, eventually breaking into the world of professional snowboarding via halfpipe competitions. He was voted 2006 Rookie of the Year in the Transworld Snowboarding Riders Poll Awards, 2006 Rookie of the Year for Snowboarder Magazine, and was named in Snowboarder Magazine's Top 10 Riders of the Year in 2008. As we slide into 2024, it’s safe to say that Davis is a veteran legend of the sport. All those years of professional riding have shaped Davis into one of the best snowboarders in the world, with one of the most distinct styles to boot. Smothered under goggles and gear, Davis' steeze is as undeniable as it is instantly recognizable.

While he cut his teeth as a competition rider, Davis seems right at home freeriding for video parts like this. Starring in TGR’s latest full length snowboard film, Flying High Again (2023), spending time in the backcountry looks like it’s second nature for Davis. His background in the world of competitions still shines brightly in the deep, fluffy stuff. Rather than take away from his ability to pick satisfying lines out of bounds, Davis’ competitive edge makes him even more of a joy to watch. All that precision and technique wasn’t for nothing, I guess.

Translating huge boosts in the hard pack of the halfpipe to the soft fluff of the backcountry is difficult, especially when you’re throwing heavy and complex tricks like Davis. Perhaps that’s what makes Danny standout. No matter if he’s dropping into a run on the super pipe or a steep line in the backcountry, Davis makes it look good. Maybe the mark of a truly great snowboarder is versatility. The rider that excels in all conditions will never be caught lacking.

Now living in Truckee, California, Davis scored big over the past 2022/23 season, which covered the Sierra Nevadas with seemingly endless fresh powder. Danny calls it “the best winter he’s ever been part of.” See for yourself in this segment, the final edition of Ride the Wave, presented by White Claw.
