On Monday, one of skiing's all-time greats Phil Casabon launched the newest installment of his "Off The Leash" video contest series. This time featuring 63 individual cuts totaling over 100 minutes of pure street and urban skiing greatness.
The contest features edits from skiers young and old, male and female, established and new. And will come with a grand prize of $5,000 for the winning edit.
In an effort to create a platform, and to get more eyes on street skiing, Casabon and co-founder Eric Iberg wanted to create a contest for skiers who may not have as much name recognition or financial backing as those in other disciplines of the sport, and elevate young and unknown talent to a global platform.
"Street skiing is a very prominent facet of the sport and there’s no platform for it. There is no way to make money and very little support exists there. There was X Games Real Ski but they shut it down, and even in the last year you could include anything. I see there’s no compensation for street skiers and it’s a shame. It’s up to people like me, so we’re doing it!" Casabon told Newschoolers in an interview.
Hopefully, this contest takes off big and we can discover new and exciting talent in the skiing world.
