Epic Powder Incoming: Sierra Nevada Set for 48 Inches of Snow

California’s legendary Sierra Nevada is gearing up for a massive storm cycle, with Kirkwood, Mammoth, and Palisades Tahoe eyeing up to four feet of fresh snow by midweek. A series of storms will hammer the region, delivering high-quality powder, with snow levels gradually dropping and cold air improving conditions daily.
While the Sierra scores the biggest totals, Utah’s Cottonwoods, Colorado’s Rockies, and the Northern Rockies are also set for consistent snow refreshes, keeping terrain in prime condition. Strong winds, shifting snow levels, and possible thunderstorms will add some unpredictability, but for those chasing powder, California is the place to be this week.
California Snowfall Highlights:
Kirkwood: Potentially 48+ inches between late Saturday and Wednesday, with peak snowfall Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mammoth: 24–36 inches with strong winds impacting upper-mountain access.
Palisades & Sugar Bowl: Up to 30 inches, with early heavy snow turning to fluff.

Other Regions to Watch:
Utah (Cottonwoods, Powder Mountain): 12–24 inches of fresh snow through midweek.
Colorado (Winter Park, Loveland, A-Basin): 6–15 inches of light, dry powder expected.
Northern Rockies (Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee): Consistent 5–12-inch resets for softer turns.
Spring might be here, but winter isn’t done yet. With more storms on the horizon, April could bring even bigger powder days across the West.
