Avalanche Beacons Required in Bounds at Utah Resort Following huge snowfall
Grab your snorkels! ‘Cause Brighton was just hit with what people are calling a ‘mega storm’, and you need to be geared up in order to ride.
But in all seriousness, with the amount of snowfall the Salt Lake area has gotten in the past few days, it is important to remember that no matter where you’re enjoying the freshies, the potential for avalanche exists.
With this in mind, Brighton Ski Resort is requiring its riders be equipped with an avalanche beacon, probe, and shovel to ride the Milly Bowl, an in-bounds run off Milly Peak. The resort said this is a temporary measure and that Milly Bowl would reopen to the general public soon.

Who’s to say when exactly “soon” is; however, in the wake of the fatal slide that happened in-bounds at Palisades Tahoe last week, it seems likely and prudent that these types of measures become a regular occurrence in ski areas with high-risk avalanche terrain.
Many skiers voiced their support of this decision on the resort’s Instagram which now is chalked full of clips of the epicness that ensued following these storms – accident free.
