Vail Resorts New CEO Rob Katz Says Park City Not For Sale

In the wake of an acquisition offer from local billionare and Cloudflare CEO Mathew Prince, Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz made it clear in a recent earnings call that the Park City Mountain Resort is not for sale.

When asked about selling Park City Mountain, he said “that’s not something we’re looking at and we don’t think that that ultimately is in the right long-term interest of our company…. A resort like Park City, of course, is critical to our overall company and our network.”

Prince, a longtime Park City resident, said he recently approached Vail with a formal offer to buy the resort—an offer Vail turned down. The pitch came after a turbulent ski season that saw labor disputes, major operations issues, and growing community tensions at Utah’s busiest ski resort.

“The Park City experience was obviously unacceptable,” said Katz, referring to the labor strikes that derailed operations at the peak of the holidays last season.

Katz, who served as CEO from 2006 to 2021 before replacing Kirstin Lynch this year, oversaw Vail’s initial acquisition of Park City in 2014.
