Second Spring Skier Injured in Jackson Backcountry

A skier in need of assistance was met by Teton County Search and Rescue at the base of Powder Eights on Saturday, according to the Jackson Hole News and Guide. The skier had been skiing on Cody Peak after taking the tram to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain. 

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort spokeswoman Anna Cole gave an official statement about the incident: "Our patrol and Teton County Search and Rescue were able to help stabilize the individual, and he was able to get himself out, with the assistance of the patrol and Teton County Search and Rescue, so there was no need for a helicopter evacuation."

Per Cole, the skier, in his 40s, had suffered a leg laceration. He made it down to the bottom of the Sublette lift, at which point he was met by rescuers who drove him down the mountain. With two injuries occurring over a short period, Cole had some cautionary words for would-be skiers: "Knowing this is the second incident in a few days we’d like to remind skiers that we are in a backcountry situation, and we ask people to be responsible and be prepared."
