Mont Blanc’s La Fourche Hut Collapses Due to Rockslide

Yet another mountainside in the Alps has collapsed this summer due to extreme heat waves. This time, a massive rockfall above the Brenva Glacier on Mont Blanc destroyed the Bivouac de la Fourche, a tiny mountain refuge that granted climbers access to the wild side of the Alps’ tallest peak. TGR athletes Jeremy Jones and Xavier De Le Rue stayed at the refuge while filming for
Deeper as they attempted to ride the North Face of the Aiguille Blanche de Peuterey. The mountains around Mont Blanc have been hit hard by climate-change-induced extreme summer heat this year, with many routes now deemed impassable by mountain guides. After a winter with very low snowfall, the normally very popular summer guiding season on Mont Blanc was shut down for weeks as deadly and unpredictable rockfall swept the normal route on nearly a daily basis.
