Lindsey Vonn Wins ‘Best Moment’ at 2019 ESPY Awards
The ESPYs (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards) are the sporting equivalent of the Oscars, Tonys, Emmys, and Grammys. Despite its terrible acronym, the annual awards show is one of the biggest cross-cutting events in American sports. Awards are presented to athletes and teams spanning the gamut of sports— from professional bowlers to NFL stars.

Alpine skiing might be a big deal across the pond, but here in the U.S. most people haven't paid a whit of attention unless Bode, Lindsey, and/or Mikaela are competing for Olympic gold. With that in mind, it's always nice to see our sport (broadly) getting some recognition from American mass media. Vonn retired from the FIS circuit this year after countless injuries, and was honored at the 2019 ESPYs alongside retired NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski and retired NBA star Dwayne Wade. The three share the award, conferred on virtue of their career achievements. We're stoked to see Lindsey getting recognition for her incredible achievements, and can't wait to see what she gets up to in retirement.
