David Ortiz and Neale Allen Shutler took this selfie after their car was buried in an avalanche that hit Highway 89. David Ortiz photo.
At around 3:00 a.m. this morning, a large avalanche buried Highway 89 between Squaw Valley and Tahoe City. Two cars were covered but nobody was injured.
David Ortiz and Neale Allen Shutler were stuck in one of the cars. According to KCRA news anchor Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Ortiz and Shutler turned the car off, used blankets to stay warm, and called their moms.
Then, they took a selfie. Because... why the hell not?
Firefighters had Ortiz and Shutler out in under and hour.
CHP reported the slide was 200 feet across, and 12 feet high before the icy snow crumbled onto the State Route.
