Every ski resort-goer knows that when spring time rolls around it's the perfect excuse to pull out the neon spandex and retro jacket in order to properly party until closing day. Some resorts are rowdier than others, but these resorts take the cake for the weirdest traditions on the mountain.
Squaw Valley's Pain McShlonkey Classic: March 18
"Dress up in your most outrageous ski duds and come out to Squaw Valley for a day full of belly laughs, camaraderie, and philanthropy in celebration of legendary skier Shane McConkey." Even some of the world's top winter athletes come to participate in the events in support of Tahoe's local hero.
Events include: The Hot Dog Downhill, The Snowblade Slalom Invitational, a costume contest, and The Shane McConkey Legacy Gala
Jackson Hole's Gelande Quaffing World Championships: TBD
Rules: "You throw the beer. You catch the beer. You drink the beer." One of the wildest drinking games in ski-bum history—Quaffing at Jackson Hole is not to be missed. Kegs are emptied as frosty mugs of beer slide across the table and are then caught and slugged in the most creative ways possible by teammates to rack points. Believe it or not, teams train for months before they are prepared to participate in this competitive chaos.

Aspen's Schneetag (Sch-knee Tog): April 9
This is not your average pond skim—Aspen takes this spring classic to the next level. Teams prepare crafty DIY boats to fly down the slope and propel themselves across the water. Flashy fashion is a must, combined with a skit the teams must put together. Aspen is well-known for its rowdy spring shenanigans, and Schneetag 2017 will be one for the books!
Steamboat Spring's Cardboard Classic: April 15
Steamboat celebrates the season with a multi-week “Springalicious” festival that includes live music, pond skimming, and the legendary Cardboard Classic. Similar to Aspen's Schneetag festivities but this time there is no water involved. Coming April, we will experience the 37th Cardboard Classic featuring sleds constructed solely of cardboard, tape, and glue (and some epic decorations). The minimal materials permitted for entry results in some proper wipeouts and good laughs for the crowd to enjoy.
