Brett Rheeder Wins 2018 Red Bull Rampage

Today was a day for the history books, as Red Bull Rampage 2018 comes to a close. Brett Rheeder took the win with one the heaviest hitting runs the mountain bike world has ever seen, edging out Andrey Lacondeguy and Ethan Nell on the podium. The contest took place in a brand-new venue outside of Virgin, Utah.

Rheeder’s first and winning run included a flat-drop backflip off the biggest drop in the venue, showcasing his textbook style combining slopestyle and big-mountain riding. Rheeder’s slopestyle career has been long and storied, including numerous Crankworx and FMB World Tour Wins. It was his first Rampage win.

Lacondeguy’s second run seemed nearly perfect, linking multiple flips and spins on his line until casing the final jump right before the finish line. “There was absolutely zero chill in his eyes,” said announcer Sal Masekela about Lacondeguy’s first run, and that fire in his eyes was evident on run two.

Third place went to local Ethan Nell, a crowd favorite for his all-out approach to the sport. Nell also took third place last year at his first Rampage appearance. His local chops show clearly, as he makes tricking and styling the venue look easy. His run included an unfathomably large no-hander off a flat drop and several spins and flips throughout the run.

The Best Trick award went to Tom Van Steenbergen for a flat-drop backflip off a massive cliff, channeling his inner Cam Zink. Zink did not compete this year due to dislocating his shoulder in practice.
