Storm Dumps 5 Feet on Valle Nevado, Chile, in Five Days

Valle Nevado, Chile, is getting absolutely hammered. In a season already described as one of the best in decades, the premier South American resort has just been hit by a storm that dropped an insane five feet of snow in just five days. As of late August, the resort has recorded over 162 inches of fresh snow for the season, with the storm alone accounting for 64 inches.

The scenes coming out of the Andes are nothing short of a dream. The mountain report, updated on August 24, confirms that the resort's snowpack stands at a deep 61 inches at the 3,000-meter level. With 12 of 13 lifts spinning and all 44 runs open, there are 25 miles of pristine pistes ready to be carved. The snow quality is described as "gripping packed powder," offering perfect conditions for high-speed turns and deep-powder exploration.

Getting to the goods is straightforward, with the G-251 access road to the resort open, though snow tires are required due to the winter conditions. The season is far from over, with Valle Nevado scheduled to keep spinning lifts through mid-October, promising more weeks of prime skiing and snowboarding.

The heavy snowfall echoes last year's exceptional season, when the resort received nearly 23 feet of snow and wrapped up its season on October 20. This year’s storm continues that trend of record-breaking snowfall, solidifying Valle Nevado's reputation for deep, dependable conditions.
