Canadian downhill legend Stevie Smith, who passed away in a motorcycle accident in May of 2016, was honored with the opening of the Stevie Smith Bike Park in his hometown of Nanaimo, BC. The park was built with help from local riders and from international pump track wizards Velosolutions, with funding from the Stevie Smith foundation.

In true fashion, instead of cutting a ribbon, Smith’s mother took up a chainsaw (in homage to the racer’s nickname) to ceremonially cut a log, marking the opening of the new park. Dozens of riders gathered to session the pumptrack and hit the beautifully formed dirt jumps on opening day.
