Squirrel Wingsuit Pilots Defy Gravity and Fly Up

Wingsuit flying made its way into the niche "do you have a deathwish" category of action sports as an offshoot from the already incredibly dangerous base-jumping. If your not familiar, wingsuits are a special kind of jumpsuit with ram-air-inflated between the arms and legs that enable humans to fly their bodies like weightless gliders. The clear advantage of the wingsuit technology to skydivers is that it allows them to fly not just straight downwards, but forwards and allows for a longer flight time.

Yet the nut-heads over at Squirrel, one of the world leaders in wingsuit technology wanted to see if it was possible to fly wingsuits down and then fly back up to gain a positive elevation. The Squirrel team took to the canyons of Moab Utah to see if the unthinkable could be down, and the results were outstanding; wingsuits going up. The wingsuit pilots would dive down into the canyon and then flare up to positive elevations as high as 250 ft.
